My week In Photographs

What a gorgeous last few days of Winter in Sydney this week has been right? 26 Degrees on Saturday, crazy!

It’s been another busy week, mostly groundhog day revolving around the kid’s sleep, food, entertainment and trying to get some work in between.

And so the story goes. Before I know it it’s another Monday again. I hate Mondays. Not because I have to got to work, but because I feel like I should make some kind of plans for the week. A to do list so that I can be more productive. Oh the pressure. Luckily it’s usually over in a blink of an eye and by Tuesday, well, it’s too late to make plans so I can just give in to the daily routine. Yeay for watching the Gruffalo again!

Here’s what my week looked like. It was an unusually full week, we hardly ever manage to fit so much in!

starring maya first burger

Started off with this little munchkin tasting her first burger and loving it. And that little screwed up face is her latest camera smile style.

starringmaya dolls house

This is my very special project at the moment. Maya and I found a doll’s house in an ugly but very solid brown wood at a garage sale. I’ve given it a couple of coats with gloss white rustoleum spray paint and I love how it’s turned out. Now on to decorating and furniture making.

We went to Manly Sea life Sanctuary to see Maya’s beloved Penguins followed by fun at the beach.

Jewellery starring maya

Got a lot of photographing of jewellery done for Instagram … Love doing this. The wizards at the Peter Lang studio have always been so generous letting me borrow whatever I like to photograph. This necklace found its way into my jewellery draw. Oops.

And lastly my favourite part of the week was a wonderful portrait session photographed by Claude. I wanted a beautiful portrait of Maya and I for the blog and for my photo wall at home. This is just a sneak untouched peek but I absolutely LOVE it. Cant wait to show you more once it’s finished.

That’s it for now, tune in for hopefully more exciting things next time. Have a wonderful week! xxx

Helicopter Gardener

As with everything In my life, I throw myself whole heartedly and completely head first into anything that strikes my fancy.

And I certainly don’t do things by half, oh no. I see, I conquer and then I eventually abandon and move on to my next big thing.

This time it’s my gardening project. In the last few weeks I’ve bought and planted so many plants I’ve lost count. I’ve googled countless times how to keep this or that plant alive.

I’ve managed to kill a few by abandonment, spent more money than I would like to talk about, and my head is literally bursting with succulents this and pest control that and WTF is an air plant?

Something to google tomorrow but I don’t know if my brain can cope. Raising a child is easier, at least some of it is instinct. She doesnt rot because I give her too much water. I didn’t even know there was a such a thing as too much water for plants.

And I’m sorry but if you’re going to tell me that pruning is good for herbs – you need to spell it out. A how to guide would have come in handy just before I tore off every basil leaf in my first attempt at herb growing.

The plant lady at the store didn’t know people like me existed.

Just FYI, I now have 4 basil pots in different stages from seeds to leafless branches. . Surely one of them has to work?

Top left clockwise – 1. destroyed by insects and overwatering 2. Picked all the leaves instead of the 1/3 recommended 3. Waiting for seeds to germinate 4. Basil shoots!

If I watered them twice day it was out of love and a sense of urgency that if I don’t tend to them they will die.

How was I supposed to know that sometimes you’ve got to give them some space to thrive.

Am I helicoptering my plants?

I know I need to stop, and I have pulled back, but it’s so hard, especially on a scorching hot day when I can feel them drying up, I can hear them pleading me for water.

Of course, I’m totally different with my child. I don’t smother her with kisses and cuddles every chance I get till she squirms away from me. I don’t worry like a maniac everyday that I’m not giving her enough vegetables and nourishment. And I most certainly don’t spend hours every night obsessively looking at photos/videos I take of her during the day because I miss her face.

Not I…

Back to the garden…

My latest pride and joy is my succulent arrangement that I put together. I found a beautiful pot at Flower Power and grabbed a range of young plants I liked the look of. There are some hideous creepy looking succulents out there!

It took me a while to figure out what looked good where but I’m pretty happy with the result. It lives proudly on the middle of my dining table and I am trying really hard not to water it.

It’s been 6 days.

What else can I plant that will be easy?
